| The Dr Martens brand is firmly entrenched into both British culture and fashion and since its birth in the 1960's has continued to be an ever present as one of the country's most popular styles of footwear. The company came about through an almost unlikely alliance between a German inventor and entrepreneur Dr Martens and a British footwear manufacturing company Griggs who were based in Northampton. They combined the structure of a hard wearing boot with the comfort of a sole comprised mainly of air to create a highly comfortable pair of boots and thus the Dr Martens brand was born. First adopted by the Skinhead movement of the 1960's the legendary brand has also been claimed by Mods and Rockers and followers of Ska, Hardcore, Grunge and more recently the Britpop revolution on the 1990's. |
